How To Market Your Site With Other People's Articles

by Rose Smith

There's a huge benefit to using articles written by other authors in your ezine or on your website that a lot of marketers may not consider.

First, it frees up some of your own time. Someone else has already done the research and typed up the article. All you have to do is have permission to use it.

There's lots of places to go where you can get free articles for your own use (as well as post some of your own). A few are:

http://www.marketing-seek.com
http://www.makingprofit.com
http://www.dime-co.com
http://opportunityupdate.com
http://www.egroups.com/group/aabusiness
(this last one is an email announcement group)

Just remember to use the author's resource box that is included with the article.

Another reason to use articles from others is that you can present your customers with good, solid information that you may not be an expert on. I know that I have quite a bit of expertise in starting and running a home business, however, I'm not an expert on writing "killer sales letters" (although I'm learning). So, instead of trying to write about something I'm not very good at (yet!), I'll use an article written by someone who knows just what the heck they're talking about.

Now...here are two secrets that you can use to market your OWN site using someone else's articles.

The first "secret" occurred to me not long ago. You see, I have also posted several of my articles to many of the sites listed above. My articles are all free to be reproduced on websites and ezines so long as my resource box is included. Well, I've now started receiving emails from various webmasters indicating that they will be using my article on their website or in their ezine in an upcoming issue.

"So What? How does that benefit me?" you may be asking...

Here's the "so what". When they send me an email about the use of my article, they also include their signature files with a link back to their web site. And what do I do? I of course go to their web site to check it out so I can see what type of site my article is being posted on.

If I like the site, I'll bookmark it. If it has a product that I might consider buying later on, I make a note of it. The secret to making this profitable to you is to do the exact same thing when you use someone else's article on your site or in your ezine.

Instead of just grabbing a free article and using it, take the time to email the author and tell them when and where you will be using a particular article of their's. If you are going to use it in your next newsletter, let them know the date and that you will send them a complimentary copy when the issue is sent out.

You've just accomplished two things. One, you've given them the address of your website, so they may just go check it out and you may just gain a new customer or perhaps they may put a link on their site promoting your site.

If the article is in your newsletter, by sending them a complimentary copy, you may gain a new subscriber, as well as someone willing to exchange advertisements with you if they also produce a newsletter.

So, what's the other secret to marketing your site with someone else's articles?

Simple. Pick a theme or topic. Go hunt down 10 or 20 articles that are well written that relate to that topic. Email the authors asking for permission to use their articles in a free ebook that you are putting together. Indicate that their resource box will be included, which equals free advertising for them. Believe me, you won't get any negative answers on this one. If you do, ditch that article and find another one.

Put your ebook together and be sure to use some of your own articles as well. Send an email to each author telling them that the ebook is now ready and invite them to download a free copy (don't forget to include the link).

Also let them know that they can give away your free ebook on their site if they wish to do so. Guess what? You've just spread your marketing material out to 10 to 20 other sites with very little effort on your part.

All in all, this can be a very effective form of marketing for your own site and products...all by using someone else's articles.
